Panel Torque & Clean Service in Grand Prairie

Screws in your electrical panel loosen over time as wires heat up and cool down. A loose screw runs hot. We open the panel, clean it out, check every connection, and tighten each one to the maker's spec before your heaviest loads of the year.

What a Torque and Clean Is

It's maintenance for the box that feeds your whole house. We turn the power off, take the cover off your panel, and go terminal by terminal. Each breaker screw, neutral, and ground gets checked with a torque screwdriver and brought back to the setting printed on the panel label. Then we vacuum out dust and look for any sign of heat damage.

Why bother? Every time a circuit carries a big load, the copper or aluminum wire warms and expands a little. When it cools, it shrinks. Years of that loosen the grip of the screw. A loose connection has more resistance, so it gets hotter, which loosens it more. That cycle is how breakers fail early and how insulation gets scorched.

Timing matters. We like to do this in spring, before the Grand Prairie summer has your air conditioner running most of the day and night. It's the hardest stretch of the year on your panel, and it's better to find a hot spot in April than in August.

What We Do During the Visit

A look before we shut it down
With the panel still running, we check for warm breakers, buzzing, or a burnt smell. That tells us where to look closest once the power is off.
Safe shutdown
We turn off the main and test that the branch circuits are dead before we touch anything. Parts on the utility side stay live, so we treat them that way.
Torque to spec
Every breaker terminal, neutral bar screw, ground screw, and main lug we can safely reach gets set with a calibrated torque tool. No guessing by feel.
Cleaning
We vacuum dust, insect nests, and debris out of the enclosure. Dust holds heat and moisture, and in a garage or outside panel it builds up fast.
Aluminum wire care
If your service or feeder wires are aluminum, we check for oxidation and apply anti-oxidant compound where it's called for before retightening.
Photos and notes
You get pictures of what we found and a plain list of anything that needs attention. Nothing gets replaced without your OK.

Signs Your Panel Is Due

  • Warm breakers or panel cover

A breaker should feel about room temperature. If one feels warm to the touch, something inside is working too hard.

  • Lights dim when the AC kicks on

Some flicker is normal. Lights that dip hard every time a big load starts can point to a loose connection on a shared circuit or neutral.

  • Buzzing or crackling

A steady hum from the panel, or a crackle when a load turns on, often means a terminal isn't gripping its wire.

  • Random breaker trips

A screw that has backed off builds heat right at the breaker. That heat alone can trip it, even on a circuit running a normal load.

  • It's never been done

If your panel has been in place for years and nobody has opened it to check, it's worth a look before summer.

What Changes the Price

Most of the cost is time with the panel open. A clean, single panel in an easy spot goes quickly. More panels, harder access, or problems we find along the way take longer. We give you the price for the visit by phone and price any repairs separately so you can decide.

Number of panels

If your home has a second, smaller panel feeding a detached shop or a back room, that one gets the same full check as the main. Two boxes means more time.

Access and location

A panel behind shelves or in a tight closet takes more setup. An outdoor panel exposed to dust and weather often needs more cleaning.

Aluminum conductors

Aluminum feeders take extra steps: cleaning oxidation, applying compound, and careful retightening.

What we find

A scorched breaker or damaged wire end is a repair, not part of the torque and clean. We show you and quote it before touching it.

How the Day Goes

  1. 1

    Plan the outage

When you book, we give you a rough window for the shutoff. That way the fridge, a work call, or a clock that needs resetting won't catch you off guard. Most homes are without power for part of the visit, not all of it.

  2. 2

Check it live, then shut it down

We do our running checks first, then turn off the main and confirm the circuits are dead with a tester.

  3. 3

    Clean, inspect, tighten

Cover off, dust out, then every terminal gets checked and set to spec. We watch for discolored wire, cracked breakers, and corrosion as we go.

  4. 4

    Power back on and walk-through

We restore power one step at a time, make sure everything comes back, and show you the photos. If something needs repair, we explain it and give you the price before any more work.

Common Questions About Panel Maintenance

How many years can I go between panel checkups?

For most homes, every few years is a good rhythm. Go sooner if you've added big loads like an EV charger or a new AC unit, or if you notice any of the warning signs above. Spring is the best time, ahead of summer heat.

Will I lose power during the visit?

Yes, for part of it. We can't safely tighten terminals on a live panel. We'll give you a rough idea of the outage ahead of time so it doesn't surprise you.

Can't I just tighten the screws myself?

We don't recommend it. Parts of the panel stay live even with the main off, and overtightening can crack a breaker or crush a wire just as surely as a loose screw causes heat. The right torque is printed on the panel for a reason.

What if you find a bad breaker or burnt wire?

We stop, take photos, and show you. Then we explain the fix and the price. If it's bigger than a simple swap, we'll talk through electrical repair or, for a worn-out panel, whether a panel upgrade makes more sense.

Can you check my generator transfer switch or surge protector at the same time?

Yes. Tell us when you book and we'll plan time for it. A whole-home surge protector mounts right at the panel, so it's a natural thing to look at while the cover is off.
