Electrical Repair in Grand Prairie, Cause Found First
Breakers that trip, outlets that quit, lights that flicker. We test to find the cause, show you what we found and give you the price before any work starts. While we're there, we point out anything summer heat or winter space heaters are likely to push next.

When something stops working, or works only some of the time
Electrical repair covers the problems that show up one at a time. A breaker that won't stay on. An outlet that went dead. A light that flickers when the dryer starts. A switch plate that feels warm. Most of these have a cause you can find with the right tests. We find it, show it to you and fix that, not the whole house.
We also pay attention to timing. A connection that is a little loose in April can get hot and fail in August, when the air conditioner runs all afternoon and every circuit carries more. So when we're in your home for one repair, we tell you what else we noticed that the coming season is likely to stress. You decide what gets done now and what can wait.
Bigger jobs have their own pages. If the panel itself is the problem, see Panel Upgrades. If the house needs new wiring throughout, see Whole-Home Rewiring.
What a repair visit covers
Tripping breakers
A breaker that trips is usually protecting the wire behind it. We measure what the circuit is drawing, test the breaker and look over the wire it feeds. That tells us if too much is plugged in, there's a short somewhere or a tired breaker is letting go early.
Dead outlets and switches
Often it's a tripped GFCI in another room, a loose push-in connection or a failed device. We trace it and replace what's bad. Where it makes sense, we move wires from push-in holes to the screw terminals so they hold.
Flickering and dimming lights
Lights that dim when a big appliance kicks on point to a loose neutral or a shared circuit. We test voltage under load to see which one it is.
Warm or scorched parts
Discolored plates, a burning smell or buzzing all mean heat at a connection. We open it up, cut back damaged wire and replace the device.
Outdoor outlets and fixtures
Exterior GFCIs, covers and porch or yard lights take rain and sun all year. We fix water-related trips and replace cracked covers so outlets stay dry.

When to have it checked
- One breaker, tripping on a schedule
- A trip whenever the AC or a space heater starts can mean an overloaded circuit or a worn breaker. Resetting it over and over doesn't fix anything.
- A hot cover plate or burning smell
- Heat points to resistance at a connection. Switch that circuit off at the panel and keep it off until we've checked it.
- Lights flickering in several rooms
- A single flickering bulb is usually just the bulb. Flicker across several rooms together can signal a loose neutral, which needs attention soon.
- Dead outlets after a storm
- Water and surges can knock out GFCIs and other devices. We confirm what's safe before resetting anything.
- Crackling or buzzing
- Outlets and switches should make no noise. Any sound points to arcing or a loose part in the box.
How a repair visit goes
- 1
You tell us what's happening
On the phone, describe what you're seeing, when it started and which appliances were on. With that, we pack the likely parts and pick a time to come out that suits you.
- 2
Testing at your home
We check the panel, the affected circuit and the devices on it with a meter. We look for heat, loose terminals and signs of water.
- 3
Findings and price before work
We show you what we found, explain the fix in plain words and give you the price. Nothing starts until you say yes.
- 4
The repair and a final check
We make the repair, power it back up and test again under load. Then we clean up and point out anything worth watching before the next season.
What changes a repair price
We price most repairs by what the fix involves once the cause is clear. So we test before we quote, and you get the price before work begins.
- How long the fault takes to trace
- An outlet that's dead because of a tripped GFCI in another room is a fast fix. A fault that appears only under load takes more time to track down.
- Reaching the wiring
- Wire behind finished walls, up in a hot attic or under built-in cabinets takes longer to get to than a box we can open from the front.
- The parts involved
- A plain outlet is an inexpensive part. AFCI or GFCI breakers and weatherproof fixtures cost more.
- Damage we uncover
- When heat has cooked a wire, we trim back to sound copper and may add a junction box to make up the length. We show you before going further.
- Permit needs
- Most small repairs need no permit. If the job turns into new circuit work that does, we file it and schedule the inspector, following your local jurisdiction's rules.
Electrical repair questions
- Why does my breaker keep tripping?
- Most often it's one of three causes. The circuit is carrying more than it was built for, there's a fault in the wire or in something plugged into it, or the breaker itself has worn out. Summer makes the first one more likely, since window units and fans pile onto circuits that were fine in spring. We test to find which it is before replacing anything.
- Is it safe to keep resetting a breaker?
- Once, to see if it holds, is fine. If it trips again, leave it off and give us a call. Repeated resets on a fault can heat the wiring further.
- Can you fix it without replacing the whole panel?
- Most of the time, yes. The problem is usually one breaker, one device or one connection. If the panel itself is failing, we'll tell you why, and our Panel Upgrades page covers that work.
- Will you have to cut into my walls?
- Not usually. Most problems sit at a device, a junction box or the panel. If we need to open drywall to reach a bad splice, we tell you first and keep the opening small.
- What should I do before you get here?
- If something smells hot or looks scorched, shut off that breaker. Otherwise, note which outlets and lights are out and what was running when it happened. Clear a path to the panel so we can get right to it.
